Director’s Speech at convocation 2010
Good Morning to all of you!
Today is an important day for us at the Indira School of Communication.  This convocation function is graced by our Chairperson Dr. Dr. Tarita Shankar and the Group Director Prof. Chetan Wakalkar. We are very fortunate to have amongst us Mr. Atul Kulkarni, a leading Marathi and Hindi film actor who is known for the memorable characters he played on the screen and for which he earned accolades.
Today we are sending our students professionally trained and qualified to venture in the world outside.

Friends, there is a question in the Upanishads. What should we teach our students? The answer given is that we should give them the key to knowledge, that is, equip them for self study. All education is ultimately self education and the teacher is only a guide. Second important teaching of the Vedas is that we should never give knowledge to an ASHISHYA, a non student, who might misuse it. Today every new technological invention is opening a vista of the new world beckoning us. Hence there is a growing need for the wisdom to use the new knowledge with discretion. Looking at the diploma films made by our students, we feel that our students have handled very bold themes with great maturity. We hope our students will continue to use their knowledge judiciously and conscientiously.
We are proud of the fact that our students have succeeded in making it big in their field. Some have followed their passion and become entrepreneurs. Our Sonalee is already sharing the limelight with a versatile genius like Atul himself.

This batch has brought laurels to the institute by winning National and State level competitions like Mr. Mood Indigo, Mr. College Idol Pune, Mr. Umang etc. This year our theatre group won various National level drama and Street play competitions.

This is really a heartening picture. Our boys and girls doing well in different fields of communication, their hearts and minds filled with hope while they work hard with dedication, Success has to come and meet them.

My dear students, today we are honoring you with a degree, we empower you to face the world full of challenges, have new dreams new hopes and aspirations. We also want to caution you to use your knowledge with proper wisdom and I am sure you will be able to realize your dreams and not just make your mark in the world but also carve a niche for yourself. Those who have done so will be able to guide in the field you have chosen.

Friends, I am sure you loved the time you spent here at I S C. You came here with your minds filled with apprehensions and you hearts full of dreams, like any newcomer. Gradually, the apprehensions were replaced with confidence and you began to love the college, its ambience. The place vibrated with enthusiasm. Now you are about to leave it but do not leave with heavy hearts. I S C will always be there wishing you good luck and great success. We will proudly watch you marching to glory. Now, let’s watch the AV prepared by our students.

Respected Chairperson Dr. Dr. Tarita Shankar, honorable guests Mr.Ramawat, Mr. Jadhav, Group Director Indira Group of Institutes Prof. Chetan Wakalkar, respected Directors, Colleagues, welcome to the inauguration function of the new Batch of 2010-12.

My dear Students,

It is my proud privilege to welcome you all to Indira School of Communication, a part of Shree Chanakya Education Society’s Indira Group of Institutes.

Now you are a part of this institute which is built with the intention of creating a platform for excellence. ISC has a conducive atmosphere that constantly helps the students progress in their various media careers.  News, radio/television, advertising, public relations, and media management, are our core areas of activity.

Here, at this institute, we promote innovative and independent thinking among our students and prepare them for a promising future.  A forward-looking academic system provides theoretical, research and practical inputs. Even as we train our young students, we become their friends, philosophers and guide. We aim at an all-round growth of our trainees through various academic and managerial concepts knowing that we have the requisite infrastructure like studios, computer labs, cameras and other equipment for the same.

Here at the ISC, we allow your minds and ideas to grow and take shape. Our tagline, ‘Cultivating Creative Minds’..says it all. We give you enough freedom and time so that you can work with dedication.  We watch you with satisfaction while you work hard to transform your ideas and dreams into reality.

Our policy is to ensure continuous evaluation, de-emphasized examinations, organize social development projects, fitness activities (gym, yoga, aerobics), and give our students plenty of practical and “real-world” exposure.

Here in this Institute we have witnessed the Aagaaz i.e. the beginning of the creative minds. The more we cultivate them, the more they shine in today’s competitive world.  In this connection may I also quote a few more glaring examples?

Sonali Kulkarni, our student of the  2008-10 Batch is well known for her outstanding performance as an actress in the film and television industry. Some of her achievements include the 45th Maharashtra State Awards for Marathi films 2008, Best Actress in a debut film,Zee Gaurav Puraskar 2008, Nargis Dutt Puraskar, Ubharata Sitara 2006 and another feather in her cap is the latest Marathi flick “Natrang”. As a mark of our appreciation of her achievements, we have awarded her the Indira Group of Institutes ‘ISC Brand Ambassador Fellowship’

Here at ISC we cultivate the creative minds and see them rise to glory. Our theatre group, formed by our students have been working professionally for last two years in the theatre and media industry. They received the runners up trophy at the National level One Act Play – Chhatariya.

Some of the very promising products of this Institute, who brought us laurels are, Wasim Khan and Siddhartha Srivastav, who won the ‘Filmy Student Promo Challenge at PROMAX/BDA INDIA AWARD 2007’. Also, Shruti Dagaonkar and Vikas Jain, trainees of the 2007Batch, won the second prize at the 15th Business School Affaire Research oriented paper presentation on the theme ‘Changing Image of Brand India’.

Rahul Sharma and Sakshi Kaul of the 2008 Batch, displayed the true spirit of Journalism by investigating ‘Solicitation of Prostitution on Web Portals’. They presented their study to the Editor, Maharastra Herald Newspaper. The story received immense public response. Popular channels like Zee News and Star News acknowledged their efforts and contribution in the interviews on respective channels.

Lubna Khan along with the trainees Darryl Vaz, Nishant Hirwani and Madhura Kulkarni of the 2006 Batch, won the award for the ‘Best Amateur Video Production of the Year” conducted by UGC.

Dear friends, the list is indeed very long. I have given only a few examples so that you get motivated and enthused to strive to achieve your own goals and see your own ideas materialize while a number of chosen expert faculty guide you.

Even as I roll out the names of individuals who have made us proud, I cannot forget to add that our students have had placements at various reputed media organizations like ZEE TV, The Times Of India, DNA etc, but our placements cell would give you more information on this. Our students also enjoy internship trainings at various channels and newspapers across the country. We have eminent personalities to give you the benefit of sharing their experiences and expertise with you. For the film making specialization, our students are exposed to actual film making on a personal basis.

Our teachers are coveted professionals and academicians. All the faculty members have ongoing industry exposure. They also obtain relevant projects and assignments for our trainees. In the very first semester you get an opportunity of independently handling industry projects. Plenty of outdoor activity awaits you. You can also write, edit, design and publish, I-view a quarterly e-newsletter that focuses on human-interest stories in our community. You can also contribute to Tapasya, the group journal, by interviewing, writing, assisting in editing. We have a special expression corner I-Voice, a speaker’s stand, where you can express yourselves.

Welcome to ISC, my young friends, Here, there is no dearth of scintillating activities to keep your interests alive.
